Our 9-year-old dog Sonya met the ocean for the first time at dog-friendly Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina. Here’re photos of her grand adventure in the Atlantic Ocean.
Sonya hesitantlydips her paws into the ocean. She checks out the ebbing and flowing water while proud David grins.
Then Sonya takes off!
What a great day at the beach!
FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!

Sonya Watches The Road Safely in The Spirit of Sunrise
Sonya loves being a co-pilot and watching the road intently. We knew she’d want to be up front with us so we spent a lot of time looking for the best solution for her – and our – safety and enjoyment.
We found a harness made with a wide, soft, fleece-lined fabric that wraps under her chest and cinches at her back. (It’s called VestHarness™.) We clip her extendable leash (Flexi 3-5) to the harness, set the leash to its shortest fixed setting, and slip the passenger seat seatbelt through the leash handle. (The passenger seat is right behind the co-pilot seat.
Sonya has enough lead to stand in the middle to watch the road, but several inches back from the dashboard and far enough away from David to not distract his driving. When she tires of watching the road, she can sidle up to my co-pilot seat for some loving or lie on her pad in the corridor.
This solution keeps Sonya both happy and secure on the road. And it gives us peace of mind.
