California Here We Come!

The ride along Interstate 8 kept intriguing us. The fascinating Imperial Sand Dunes. The steep climb. The highway looping over itself so westbound traffic was on the left and eastbound on the right. The remarkable mountains of chocolate brown boulders.

And it kept taking us by surprise with its checkpoints. Signs warned us that the first one was about fresh produce. Egads! We had just stocked up in Yuma. To our relief, the guard asked if we had any fruit or vegetables from other than Arizona. Phew! At the second checkpoint, we had to state our citizenship. David got carried away and told the U.S. Border Patrol guard that even Sonha was American.

One of these days, I'll choose my favorite rock. For now, I'm enjoying the views each one offers. Photo credit - David Muenker

Mid-afternoon we arrived at our home for the next six months, Sacred Rocks Reserve. Our RV site backs up to several miles of trails through high country desert vegetation.

We scrambled up several favorite “top of the world” rocks, enjoying the vistas they revealed.

Everything feels right about this place. We’re going to like it here!
