After more than a month visiting friends and family in Colorado, we felt out of practice RVing. Before we hit the road again, we piled our clothes, toiletries, computers and other items on the bed to be sorted later. We gassed up Spirit of Sunrise. Ouch! We’d forgotten how expensive that is. We stocked up on food items. Then we clasped our hands across the space between our seats and wished each other “Happy, joyful, safe, uneventful travels.”
Our first destination was Raton Pass, only 140 miles away. That was plenty for the shakedown ride. The Spirit of Sunrise climbed the steep pass like a champ. Our site atop the pass at Cedar Rail RV Park looked over a spectacular vista of mountain ranges and healthy pinyon pine forests. Sunset spread brilliant orange hues across the evening sky. Breathing the cool, fresh air re-energized me.
We spent a full day there organizing our belongings and washing the RV. Rested and restored, we headed southward toward our final destination for this journey, southern California.
