A Toast to Kentucky Wines

Delectable wines caressed our palates as we tasted several of the varieties grown at Black Oak Vineyard near Lake Barkley and the town of Princeton, KY. The first Saturday in October,  proprietors Dr. Jenny Franke and Dr. David Hall hosted a festival for the public, complete with pumpkin painting and grape stomping for the kids and wine tasting for the adults.

Our favorites were the Chardonel and Chambourcin. These hybrids have proven to grow well in the Kentucky climate.  In its first year of production, Black Oak Vineyard won a bronze medal in the “French Hybrid Red” category for its Chambourcin at the annual Kentucky Derby Festival Wine Competition.

We’ll drink to that – but mostly to the wine’s exquisite taste.
