The Narrowest Bridge of Kentucky

Kentucky’s Narrowest Bridges

Kentucky’s Narrowest Bridges

This photo makes the bridges across the Mississippi River and the Ohio River from Missouri into Kentucky look like easy street.  See how the bridge over the Ohio runs perpendicular to the bridge over the Mississippi?  With the golden fields, wide river waters and architectural beauty of the bridges, it’s a gorgeous sight to behold.  From my command in the co-pilot seat, I was able to take in the scenery – at least until things got hairy.

But take a look at the shoulder (LACK thereof!) and the curb.  The narrow lanes became a nerve-wracking challenge when one semi-trailer after another came roaring across the bridge in our direction! One flinch and the rubber on the lettering on the dolly’s right tire was worn clear off!

That bridge has been the source of many sympathetic and “Oh, s—t!” conversations among the RVers at our campground. Since that eventful crossing, we’ve learned that the bridges to The Land Between The Lakes are even narrower! We’ll cross them is in our compact car!

(BTW, that’s not dust on my camera lens. It’s bugs that committed kamikaze on the windshield.)

  3. Now you’ve done it: my life will not feel complete until I can say I’ve crossed David & Rose’s “Oh s–t! Bridge.” Your blog makes me almost feel like I’m on the road with you.
